The Residence of Mike Kikujirou 三毛菊次郎宅 (sān máo jú cì láng zhái )
This is the bureau director’s house used by the second but last director of the Jinguashi Mining Bureau in the Japanese era, Mike Kikujirou. We were required to queue up in front of the house to wait for our turns to visit the house. About 8-10 ppl are allowed in the house for each visit and it takes about 15 minutes to finish the tour.

Inside the room, separated into many parts and this is one

We try to visit all points but hv to burry in one building as it’s warm. we’re inside for 45mins, scared to face off windy, raining, & cold weather outside. Seems one umbrella is not enough for us, my cloth’s wet. I take one more umbrella from info. counter before going to another building. Chitang Old Street.

Walking down the steps outside Jinguashi police station, passing the old Japanese hospital, through Tongshan settlement and up the steps and you reach Cyuanji Temple. This was the most prosperous and busiest street in early Jinguashi. The black asphalt roofs are different heights mixed together. Walking on this street is like taking a trip back in time. In its heyday there were numerous shops

Jinguashi Shinto Shrine.

The Jinguashi Shinto Shrine, also called the “Mountain God Shrine,” is dedicated to the three deities of “ôkuninushinomikoto, kaneyamahikonomikoto and sarutahikonomikoto. In 1933, after the Japan Mining Company took over the management of Jinguashi mine, it commemorated the event by building a Shinto shrine half way up the mountain below Siping lane. The original shrine included a main hall, prayer hall and pavilion for worshipers to wash their hands. There were also two walkways along the stairs, at either side of which were 3 torii (gate), 5 flag platforms and 1 bronze bull. During the Japanese era large-scale religious ceremonies and rituals were held here every year. Unfortunately, the buildings were damaged in the post-war period and today all that is left are 2 torii (gate), a few stone lanterns and the shrine’s

* History of Gold Ecological Park (黄金博物院huáng jīn bó wù yuàn)
Jinguashi was once a booming gold and copper mining town. However, times change and once prosperous industries fade. That doesn't mean that they no longer hold value. In 2002, Jinguashi was named a potential World Heritage site. As this park shows, old mining facilities can be transformed into a premier recreational destination, with many of the park's original buildings being re-used as exhibition space.

The Gold Ecological Park museum once served as the office of the Taiwan Metal Mining Corp. It features exhibits on the development of Jinguashi's mining culture. Gold was discovered here in 1889, and the Ching Dynasty government set up a mining bureau between 1892 and 1893. However, in 1895, Taiwan was ceded to Japan, and Japan took over the mining operations. In 1905, copper was also discovered here and began to be extracted.
once a booming gold and copper mining town. Although the industries faded, Jinguashi still hold the value and it was named a potential World Heritage site in year 2002. You can see the old mining facilities can be transformed into a recreational destination. A lot of the original buildings had been rebuilt and reused as exhibition

JiuFen's knew for Old Street which is very popular Wkend gateway for TP residents and tourists attraction. One can enjoy a magnificent vista of surrounding mountains and their foothills merging into sea or hike on Mt. Jilong for a beautiful seascape or visit Jinguashi for another handful of tourist attractions. I and Selina decided to spend a relaxing afternoon there. Our plan was to step through the alleys of Jiufen old street, visit one of the many teahouses on Jinshan street for an afternoon tea and possibly in the late evening have a good look at the well talked about night-view from Jiufen and then head back to Taipei.

Jiufen Old Street

Old street is known for its stepped alleyways illuminated by Chinese red lanterns hung all the way on both sides. Apart from food stalls it boasts exceptional number of exquisite artwork shops [I came across a crazy mask store that had a ghost like ambiance], stores selling leather products and several tea shops. There are also quite a few stores that sells Indian stylized cloths. Like many other Taiwan market places its unbelievable how they house so many shops in such a small place. As we made our way up to the Jiufen elementary school we had already spent three hours navigating through the crowds, getting in and out of numerous shops, queuing up to buy food. There is a great store that sells Yu Yuen [yam or taro balls I guess] at the far end of old street. We bought some, sat on the steps of school and enjoyed the magnificent evening view of Jiufen still bustling with flocks of people. Our plan for an afternoon tea on Jinshan street was long forgotten.

* Hisroty of 九份老街 ( jiǔ fèn lǎo jiē)
This town known for its teahouse culture, wooden houses and stone pavements up a steep terrain. The village here housed nine families during the first years of the Qing Dynasty, thus the village would request "nine portions" until 1893 when gold was discovered in the area. The resulting gold rush hastened the village's development into a town and reached its peak during the Japanese rule. Gold mining activities declined after World War II, and the mine was shut off in 1971. Jiufen quickly went into decline and for a while the town was mostly forgotten.

1600hrs, reach hostel & take a rest for 1.3hrs before out to LongShan Temple.
Now, we’re ready for going out again. my sis also change shoes and get more clothes le. MRT to LongShan Temple St. Tourist info. in TW is very clear & we could understand from various of mass not only map, but also board of each MRT st. & each attraction areas. But, one thing surprise me is their Eng aren’t good as I thought. So, we’re better to spk CN …

1830hrs, reach LongShan Temple. 龙山寺 (just opposite the MRT exit). Much like LengNaiYi in Chinatown of TH. Ppl come to worship & perform their religious ceremony. U could see a mixture of Buddhist, Taoist, & folk, built since 1738

I think go temple at night is very good idea cuzz no sunshine and nice ( lightup )

We walk around the temple to take pix and out to HuaXi Night Market

* History of LongShan Temple 龙山寺

It was built in 1738 by settlers from Fujian, China. It served as a place of worship and a gathering place for the Chinese settlers. The temple has been destroyed either in full or in part on numerous earthquakes and fires.
During World War II, on 31 May 1945 it was hit by American bombers during the Raid on Taipei, who claimed the Japanese were hiding armaments inside. The main building and the left corridor were damaged and many precious artifacts and artworks were lost in the ensuing fire. Taipei residents have nevertheless consistently rebuilt and renovated it, and did so again after the end of the Second World War a few months later. Longshan is seen as an emblematic example of Taiwanese classical architecture, with southern Chinese influences commonly seen in older buildings.
Like most temples in Taiwan, the Temple worships a mixture of Buddhist, Taoist, and folk deities such as Matsu
