Taroko 太魯閣國家公園 (台湾七大国家公园之一)

One of the seven national parks in Taiwan and was named after the Taroko Gorge, the landmark gorge of the park. It spans the counties of Hualien, Taichung, and Nantou on the island of Taiwan.

The park was originally established as the Tsugitaka-Taroko National Park (次高タロコ国立公園 Tsugitaka Taroko kokuritsu kōen) by the Governor-General of Taiwan on December 12, 1937 when Taiwan was part of the Empire of Japan. After the Empire of Japan's defeat in World War II, the Republic of China assumed control of Taiwan. The ROC government subsequently abolished the park on August 15, 1945. It was not until November 28, 1986 that the park was reestablished.

1st destination is Taroko entrance near Shakadang Trail (砂卡噹步道) where cant miss. River's black much like refused water from factory. When I saw, I found thousands of grits & stones which are marble. Then, we walk down at Shakadang Trail , abt 2kms. More walk is more tired & nothing to see, only Grotto Mountain & liver. We took 1hr for this trail before back to taxi for next destination.

ShaKaDang Trail

Shakadang Trail is also known as "Secret Valley Trail", cuzz more than 40 years ago a group of young folks entered the river valley and found it very secretive. This place has attracted more and more travelers, and thus everyone is used to calling it "Secret Valley". It renamed to "Shakadang Trail" in 2001 again according to the name of the river. This trail is built along the river cliff so travelers can easily observe both the folded rocks and ecosystem beside the river shore. After 4.5-km passing Sanjianwu(3D Cabin), the trail leads to old Datong tribe village, which is the favor of the travelers. After the first curve road, running water from upright river cliff to the lake has astonished many people. In May, it is the season for You Tong flowers and make the trail a pleasant flower hallway.

BIG red bridge to connect between each montains

Cihmu Bridge (慈母橋) The Red Rope bridge on big grotto for CKS's mother memorial.

Tunnel of Nine Turns (九曲洞).

Nowadays, the man carved tunnel has been split between driving roads and walking trails. While we were taking a walk, the cars were lining up outside the tunnel

How huge grotto is!!!! So surprised how TW ppl build. Here's very dangerous . U know,CN Mainland tourist died last 2 months before I came cuzz of fallen rock. Btw, we got helmet & walk along the trail provided only. The weather is very cool up here, windy !! we still keep walking abt 1.5kms to the terminus where Mr. Wang’s waiting for us.

Many long tunnels in Taroko to connect betwee each montains, separated into 2 majority lanes; for driving & walking.

石头掉下来

Mr. Wang head to Swallow Grotto ( 燕子口)very long bridge between 2 mountains. So many oldies come to climb mountain. They are very healthy differ from TH oldies. hehe
Swallow Grotto Entrance

The Grotto was carved by hands of the experienced after Taiwan claimed its independence. For fear of the war between the mainland and Taiwan, the government decided to build a road across the east to the west for better material transfer and hence the development of a tunnel like grotto. The top ceiling was all man-carved and later on become homes of swallows. And .. Inside the grotto. The holes along the creek are also homes to the swallows.

The Jinheng Suspension Bridge 錐麓吊橋锥 (zhuī lù diào qiáo) , nearby Grotto Gate
was where the aboriginals take to go down the mountain for their daily works.

Eternal Spring Shrine (長春祠) another major attraction. Here is highlight of Taroko as the memorial of workers who devote themselves to renovate & maintain this national park.

from the west exit of the Changchun Tunnel of the Central Cross-Island Highway, then turn south(left) and go along the old Central Cross-Island Highway to the car park next to Liwu River, and you can see the Changchun (Eternal Spring) Shine which commemorates the 212 personnel (military veterans) who died during the construction of the Central Cross-Island Highway (1956~1960). Spring water adjacent by the Changchun Shine flows all year round, and the Highway Bureau named it after "Chanchun Falls." It is now scenic spot with special significance on the Central Cross-Island Highway.

In 1987 the cliff by the rivers collapse and destroyed the pavilion next to the Changchun Shine. After 10 years it was restored and is now open to the public again. that the back of the Changchun Shine there are stairs leading to Kuanyin Cave, Taroko Tower, Bell Tower (the highest point), and across a suspension bridge to Changuang Temple (Zen temple) . The river valley next to the Changuang Temple has a bottle gourd shape, and it is named thereafter as Bottle GourdValley (Hu-lu Gu). The trail is a 1.3km/085mile leisurely walk will take 50 minutes to an hour. The trail is quite steep and visitors should stay off the trail on rainy days.

walk to the end, there's ladder to downstais. GuanYin on ur left, front of entrance of another tunnel.

And final destination is Tiansiang (天祥) pity I didn’t take pic cuzz very tired so we just drank water down stair & took a look up there.
